Mid Late 1980s Louis Vuitton began using letters in the date codes in the mid 1980's. This is because their serial numbers and fonts have remained relatively consistent throughout the years. The initial two numbers show the year, and the 1-2 numbers show the month. Wallets have serial numbers. It's kind of hard to describe.but it will be on the inside , in a credit card slot stamped on the leather.Look inside the compartments.it will be in one of them.My Gucci opens to reveal credit card slots and billfold.my is in the inside of the compartment undernaeth the credit card slots. If you can't find it I'll post pics of where mine is.The top row of numbers is the model number, The main area to look for when determining if a Gucci bag is real is the leather tab found inside the bag, on the rear side. Therefore, it’s become increasingly difficult to tell a counterfeit bag from a real one solely based on these factors. The Gucci model and serial number is a symbol of authenticity for the companys products, and every genuine Gucci wallet, watch and purse comes with a 10- to 13-digit model and serial number located on the item. In their attempt to dupe you into parting with your cash, many counterfeiters use high quality leathers, fabrics and hardware, in addition to sophisticated tools and machinery. While these are vitally important factors when assessing a bag, the methods that counterfeiters use to produce fake goods are becoming more advanced. 1990 2006Many authentication guides advise you to look at general areas of the bag in question, such as symmetry, the quality of the stitching, hardware, and the quality of the materials used. The first to numbers show year, the last 1-2 numbers show the month, followed by the country.
Gucci Wallet Serial Number Layouts OverSome examples of authentic leather tabs. On some recent bags the tab can simply be found sewn on the interior directly if the bag has no pocket on the rear side. On some bags, they’re attached to the leather trim lining of a zip pocket or sewn directly under a slip pocket. Similarly, it will always be made out of leather (even if the bag is not), and will be in the same colour as the exterior. However, there are slight variations in how they’re attached to the interior. On the front, you’ll see the Registered Trademark symbol centred at the top, with the word ‘GUCCI’ in uppercase, and the words ‘made in italy’ below, in lowercase. Here are some consistencies to take note of: you will always find the leather tab on the rear side, even on vintage bags. Instead, the ‘GUCCI made in italy’ and the serial number are embossed directly onto the bag.Regardless if the logo is imprinted on a tab or directly onto the leather, the font will be in the same style across all bags. Below: The slimmer Jackie, which does not have the flap. The deeper one does have the leather tab, while the serial number is embossed directly onto the leather interior: Above: The deeper Jackie Flap bag with the standard leather tab. (It’s worth noting that there are two versions of this recently modernised take on Gucci’s classic Jackie bag: a slim one, and a deeper one. The tab on the top-right model is sewn directly onto the bag when there are no pockets, while the tab on the bottom-left is sewn onto the slip pocket.Exceptions to this rule are wallets and the Jackie Convertible flap bag, which is essentially a shoulder bag that doubles as a wallet when you remove the strap. Although the type of leather varies, the logo will always be clearly imprinted. Above: some examples of authentic tabs. The edges of the tab will be very neat and straight, and always perpendicular to each other. In addition, the writing will always be perfectly straight and centered on the rectangular tab. Similarly, it will be cleanly and crisply imprinted onto the leather, and each row will always be perfectly centered. Some examples of authentic serial numbers: notice the variance in the number of digits on the top and bottom rows. Therefore, due to the variety of different digit combinations, it’s important not to assume that a bag which does not have six digits on top and six below is fake. Some older models from Gucci’s Tom Ford era in the early 2000’s show a full-stop (or a period) in the middle of the top row of digits. Some bags even show seven digits on the top and six below. Yet there are many possible combinations, such as five on top and six on the bottom, or six on top and four below. This can be very useful in serving as a template from which you can compare each number directly with the real thing. When authenticating a bag, I highly recommend having either the serial number from a real bag nearby to use for comparison, or a photo of one. The ‘7’ also has a small line vertical line at the top, and a horizontal line at the base. Regarding each digit in particular, the ‘0’ is oval-shaped, while the ‘2’ has a distinctive curl at the top. Bottom left: The numbers are too large in relation to the tab, and poorly impressed into the leather. Top right: the font is incorrect, and some numbers are too close together that they appear to be touching. Top left: the numbers are not imprinted deeply enough, while the top edge of the tab is poorly cut. In particular, the ‘made in italy’ font looks like the imprinting machine has slipped slightly, making the writing look fuzzy towards the bottom. However, the text is not as well imprinted as that of an authentic bag. To the untrained eye they can look very convincing, but on further inspection they show some vital flaws.Above: at first glance both tabs seem convincing because the fonts are more similar to the original than most fakes. However it’s important not to rely solely on this one aspect: the quality of the materials, stitching, hardware and accompanying accessories (dust bag and cards) must also be inspected so that you can be 100% assured that you’re investing in a real bag.The below images show the leather tabs of two counterfeit bags that are particularly difficult to authenticate. Bottom right: this bag is a higher quality counterfeit, yet the font is still in the wrong style (the ‘2’ and ‘3’ are distinctly different from the real digits), and the numbers are too close together. The leather tabs usually give very clear indications of the authenticity of a Gucci bag. Again, to the untrained eye these serial numbers can look convincing. The gaps between each row is too narrow, particularly between the trademark ‘R’ and ‘Gucci’, and you will also notice that the black edging paint runs over the edges on both, showing that it has been sloppily applied. The images below show the back of the leather tabs as seen above. On these, however, the bottom line is too small as it begins just before the ‘G’ on ‘Gucci’ ends. Delay email sending outlook for macBut by applying the knowledge you’ve learned from this guide, you’ll be more able to identify if a bag looks suspect. Finally, on both tabs, the black edging has again been applied carelessly, leaving small marks that run off the edges. If you are new to authenticating, assessing a Gucci bag to ensure that it’s real can often be a confusing task. You will also see that the downward line on the ‘7’ is not thick enough, nor does it have a clear horizontal line at the base. On the orange tab, the numbers are too small and the rows are too far apart from each other. When looking at each number individually, the ‘0’ and ‘3’ on the red tab is a faint line in the shape of an oval, rather than a clearly impressed, thick shape.
